Every dog should have a certain minimum level of education, to prevent to disturb or to endanger neighbours, walkers and other dog owners. It is not expected that every dog is perfect “drilled”, but he should obey to basic commands such as "Off", "Come" or "heel". Only in this way a peaceful coexistence can be assured and you can also reach the acceptance of "non-dog owners". Because a well-behaved dog, will not give anyone a reason for complaints.
However, you as a dog owner should not forget to start with the education by yourself. This shall mean that we hold on to basic rules as legal requirements (Datei Download: EU-Verordnung 998-2003) and generally applicable rules of handling and keeping dogs. For example, it is prohibited to walk your dog off the lead on public roads that were not specifically declared as animal off-lead-areas. As well you will not receive jubilation storms if your dog is barking at nighttime or you will leave the excrements of your dog in public areas. Here we have to put ourselves for the foundations for a solid base (of education). Even of a well trained dog you only can expect what you have taught him before. It does not matter whether you have a small or large dog. A disobedient dog could be dangerous, never mind if he is small and large.
And moreover, training can bring so much fun. To see how our four-legged friend is making progress; to see his happiness when we are satisfied with him and us; when we see that the training is reinforcing the good relationship between you and your dog and he is hardly waiting for the next training session. There does not exist a better confirmation for us and the used methods of positive training. If you simply have the sense of having done everything right - then you really on the right track regarding the “education of your dog”!
